SUMMARY:Eliminating the Subminimum Wage Series: Real Wages for Real People!
DESCRIPTION:In this series\, you will learn what subminimum wages are\, why they exist\, and how they impact people with disabilities. Our expert speakers will share real-life examples\, discuss current policies\, and explore ideas for fairer pay practices. \nApril 1: History and Current Landscape \nLearn about the history of subminimum wage—how it started\, why it was used\, and its impact on workers\, especially those with disabilities. We’ll also cover the current landscape and the efforts being made for fairer wages today. \nApril 8: Provider Experience Panel \nLearn about how disability service providers in Minnesota are moving away from subminimum wage pay. Providers from across the state will explain their experiences. They will share what they’ve learned while ending subminimum wage work.  \nApril 15: Self-Advocate and Parent Experience Panel \nLearn from parents and self–advocates about their experience finding a job where they make at least minimum wage.    \nApril 22: Benefits and Planning with Competitive Employment \nMany individuals worry about what happens to their benefits when returning to work. We want to show you how working can help you get ahead! This presentation will review the impact of employment on benefits as well as work incentives and available supports.  Being informed on how benefits and employment go together allows choice\, independence\, and financial security. \nApril 29: Audience Questions and Comments \nThe Arc Public Policy Team will give a legislative update.  Then\, we will answer questions that were submitted over the last four presentations.   \n  \nClick Here to Register: A Zoom link will be emailed to you after registration.
