SUMMARY:Share Your Story Training
DESCRIPTION:There is a lot going on in our country and state right now\, and elected officials need to know how the laws they make effect people with disabilities. Your lived experience matters and can inform the decisions they make. However\, it can be hard to figure out the best way to advocate and share your story with people in positions of power. Join us March 5th from 3:00pm-4:00pm to learn how!   \nSophie Iverson from The Twin Cities Regional Capacity Building Network will present on how to tell your story and advocate for what you care about. There will also be a workshop opportunity to start crafting your message.   \nThis event will be held via Microsoft Teams. You will receive a link after registering. \nQuestions? Contact: SophiaIverson@ArcMinnesota.Org \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:Supported Decision Making Series
DESCRIPTION:The Regional Quality Councils and Regional Capacity Building Networks are hosting a lunch and learn series to talk about the variety of supports someone can receive to help them make decisions. \nEvery person and family has a unique path. We will help provide information and resources so people can make the decisions that are right for their situation. There is a continuum of support\, from informal help from family and friends\, to formal tools and legal supports. Each person may need different types of support at different times in their life. \nThere will be a variety of perspectives and experiences from presenters/panelists\, including people with disabilities\, family members\, and professionals who have expertise in this area. \nFebruary 6th: General Overview   \nThe first session in the series will be a general overview of Supported Decision Making and Guardianship. Attendees will receive information about the wide range of ways to support people in making decisions. The session will be led by Anita Raymond\, from the Center for Excellence in Supported Decision Making.  \nFebruary 13th: Self Advocate and Parent Panel   \nIn this session we will invite people with disabilities and their family members to share their lived experiences in decision making.  We will explore who makes decisions in each family\, what supports are needed to make informed decisions\, what happens if there are disagreements\, and more!  \nFebruary 20th: Special Education with and without guardianship  \nThis session will focus on what happens when a student receiving special education in Minnesota turns 18. The Minnesota Department of Education will explain the ‘age of majority’ and transfer of rights. Wendy Fritz\, a transition facilitator with Detroit Lakes Public Schools\, will share her experience supporting students who are their own guardians as well as those with guardianship.   \nFebruary 27th: Legal considerations  \nThis session will start with an overview of the Guardianship Bill of Rights and explore the legal process\, considerations\, and potential challenges for someone under guardianship who wants to have it ended. The session will be led by Rebecca Wanous and Natalie Bielenberg from Autism Advocacy and Law\, who will share practical insights and answer questions.  \nRegister Here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/Q865OImdQYePJ3u7YNagJg#/registration   \nContact: CortneyKressin@ArcMinnesota.Org
